Richard Bryan

Richard's initial music training began at St. Michael's College, Tenbury where he became Head Chorister, and continued at Cambridge University, where he conducted his College Choir and was Honorary Choral Scholar at Jesus and Pembroke Colleges. He also found time to write and perform for the celebrated Footlights Comedy Revue, as well as representing the University at the 110m Hurdles. Whilst at Cambridge he formed CANTABILE, which for the next ten years became his full-time career.

High Singing Around the World

Richard took a sabbatical from Cantabile which seemed to last most of the 90s. During that time, he... oh for heaven's sake, let's drop the pretence - I, did some fun stuff like a season of tall acting in the West End; lots of high singing around the world with people like Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe and Andrew Litton (with whom I have a two-hundredth share in a Grammy); and a bit of musical misdirection with Ken Branagh on the movie Peter's Friends (the soundtrack for which got a BAFTA, but somehow my statuette got lost in the post-production).

I was also Arts correspondent for BBC Radio Guernsey, and on the side found time to co-found the Channel Islands' first Montessori School, as you do. And now Richard is back in the third person (but we're aspiring to first person plural).

His favourite drink is free, his favourite colour is that red you get on fifty-pound notes; favourite singers are B. Terfel, B. Bonney, A. Scholl and the girl who did 'Nellie the Elephant'.
